Criminal Defense Externship Project Completes Sixth Year
The Legal Aid Society's NY County Criminal Defense Externship Project is a rotational externship opportunity where associates work either part-time over a nine-month period or full-time over a six month period, to assist with this enormous caseload while gaining valuable litigation experience. New Opportunities

Volunteer at the Access to Benefits (A2B) Hotline
The Legal Aid Society is expanding the Access to Benefits (A2B) Hotline to include immigration matters and is looking for volunteer assistance to help staff the newly expanded initiative. The immigration portion of the A2B Hotline will be open for calls every Monday and Friday from 9:30am to 12:30pm and is run from the Society's 199 Water Street location.

The Legal Aid Society is also looking for volunteer assistance to help staff the general A2B hotline, which is open for calls on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30am-12:30pm and is also run from 199 Water Street. Learn more

Bankruptcy Basics for Low-Income Clients 2014
On September 10th, the Practising Law Institute is presenting this free program on bankruptcy for low-income clients, focusing on Chapter 7, from the day a new client walks into your office to the day you receive notice that they have successfully received a discharge and their case is closed. DACA Training: How to Use the Online Screening and Application Interview
On September 23rd, the Immigration Advocates Network are hosting a webinar on how the Own the Dream online DACA screening and application interview works, and how to use it in the community to help more people find out about DACA eligibility and apply for or renew DACA. Learn more

New York State Supreme Court Motions Practice Basics for Foreclosure Advocates
On September 30th, LS-NYC will deliever a nuts and bolts overview of motion practice in New York Supreme Court, highlighting the governing rules, pre-answer motion considerations, summary judgment evidentiary issues, discovery motion requirements and procedures, the nuts and bolts of putting motion papers together, and what happens after motions are decided. Library Resources

The Legal Aid Society | Social Security Disability
Learn how to represent disabled children and adults at administrative hearings before the Social Security Administration. Successful clients receive higher monthly income and are entitled to Medicaid or Medicare benefits to cover the cost of medical treatment. These resources cover Social Security law and practice including how to gather and analyze medical evidence, the examination of parties and witnesses, drafting effective pre-hearing memoranda, and oral argument. The Legal Aid Society | Administrative Housing Matters
Learn to represent public housing residents and Section 8 voucher recipients with administrative hearings regarding termination of tenancy or subsidy proceedings and remaining family member matters. These resources provide a background of the public housing programs in New York City, give an overview of substantive and procedural law, and training in fact-finding and document discovery, preparing witnesses, and conducting direct and cross-examination.
