Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton Partner with LAS Immigration Law Unit on New Pro Bono Initiative
The Legal Aid Society's Immigration Law Unit and Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton are launching a new pilot project to represent non-detained long-term permanent US residents facing removal from the United States but eligible for relief. This month they report on their successful representation of a 60-year-old refugee facing deportation. Learn more

New Opportunities

Volunteer at the Access to Benefits (A2B) Hotline
The Legal Aid Society is expanding the Access to Benefits (A2B) Hotline to include immigration matters and is looking for volunteer assistance to help staff the newly expanded initiative. The immigration portion of the A2B Hotline will be open for calls every Monday and Friday from 9:30am to 12:30pm and is run from the Society's 199 Water Street location.

The Legal Aid Society is also looking for volunteer assistance to help staff the general A2B hotline, which is open for calls on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 9:30am-12:30pm and is also run from 199 Water Street. Learn more

The Basic CLARO Training Program
On May 13th, attend this CLARO training to become eligible to volunteer at CLARO. CLARO, the Civil Legal Advice and Resource Office, is a limited, legal advice project for unrepresented debtor-defendants. Learn more

The Legal Aid Society | Special Immigrant Juvenile Status
Learn how to help obtain lawful immigration status for undocumented NY youth who have suffered from abuse, abandonment, or neglect. These resources focus on Special Immigrant Juvenile Status ("SIJS"), providing an overview of the laws and institutions involved in SIJS, and guidance for pro bono lawyers working with undocumented youth. Learn more
