The Public Benefits Practice Area provides resources for attorneys and other professionals assisting residents of the District of Columbia with their public benefits issues.

The Public Benefits Practice Area is hosted by AARP Legal Counsel for the Elderly (LCE), Whitman-Walker Clinic Legal Services Program, and the DC Bar Pro Bono Center.


 

What’s On This Site?

Library

The Library contains practice and procedural resources, sample forms, sample letter briefs and pleadings, quick links and on-demand training videos and course materials, with a particular focus on Social Security disability law and practice including eligibility for Social Security disability benefits and Social Security overpayments.

The Library also includes general eligibility descriptions for Supplemental Security Income (SSI), Social Security disability insurance benefits, Medicaid, Medicare, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP or Food Stamps), Temporary Assistance to Needy Families (TANF), Interim Disability Assistance (IDA).

Listserv

The Public Benefits Casehandlers Listserv is for legal services providers representing clients with public benefits matters and is a resource for sharing information and announcements.
