Pro Bono Project (Silicon Valley)
The Pro Bono Project Silicon Valley is a non-profit agency working to connect low income clients with attorneys willing to take their cases pro bono. Our clients primarily have family law cases, but we work on all aspects of civil law. We serve approximately 1,000 clients per year, and have the support of over 300 volunteer attorneys in Santa Clara County. Our programs include educational and self-help clinics, staff assistance with paperwork and filing, direct representation and referral services to participating volunteer attorneys.
Our need for volunteers extends beyond that of attorneys. We need help staffing our client intake clinics, where we interview clients and determine the nature of their problem, our default clinic where we assist clients with preparing their own paperwork, and help in the office managing cases, communicating with clients, and general office support. We offer orientation and training to all of our volunteers. We also offer liability insurance to both attorney and non-attorney volunteers. Volunteering with the Pro Bono Project, one will experience direct client contact and have the chance to help people take the steps necessary to make positive and profound changes in their lives.
The Pro Bono Project website (www.probonoproject.org) contains a listing of Project Clinics and current pro bono cases available.
