This walk-in clinic is open to the general public with the purpose of assisting individuals with legal questions and concerns. Some clients have a particular legal question they need answered, while others have both legal and/or social service concerns.

Between 10 and 12 volunteer attorneys, with different areas of legal expertise, attend each clinic. These attorneys give brief advice to clients or make appropriate referrals to community agencies and organizations. In addition, there are social service volunteers present at LARC to answer questions and assist individuals in accessing resources. Intake volunteers assist by serving as legal interviewers for LARC clients. Attendance at LARC ranges from 70 to 100 clients each month.

Volunteer Attorneys
Upon arrival, a legal interviewer screens each client to determine his or her legal problem. As an attorney, you will volunteer providing consultations and referrals in your area of expertise.

Social Service Volunteers
In addition to making legal referrals, LARC also provides social service resources for clients. LARC provides clients with brochures, flyers, and other helpful information about agencies and community resources. LARC is staffed by volunteer social services professionals who provide assistance and referrals to clients in need. Licensed professionals are preferred but not required. As a volunteer social worker you will see clients. Fluency in Spanish, Mandarin, or Cantonese is helpful but not required.

Intake Volunteers
Law students, paralegals, and attorneys without expertise in a relevant area of law can volunteer as legal interviewers. You will register clients and write up a brief description of their legal problem, to be used by the volunteer attorney. When registration ends, you will have the opportunity to shadow the attorneys during their client consults until the end of the clinic.
