Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center (PIRC)

Pennsylvania Immigration Resource Center (PIRC) is a pro bono, non-profit legal service organization founded in 1996 to provide access migrants and asylum seekers access to legal services and information.

Mission: to provide legal support and services to adults and children detained by the Department of Homeland Security in Pennsylvania detention facilities.

Description: provides direct legal services and referrals for pro bono representation in cases involving removal/deportation proceedings, with an emphasis on immigrants who have fled torture in their home countries or who fear being tortured if returned to their countries and other vulnerable populations, including unaccompanied children, families, survivors of domestic violence and immigrants with mental health conditions.

Attorneys-Pro Bono Opportunities:
PIRC is actively involved in offering training on the legal issues of ICE detainees to attorneys and volunteers. PIRC conducts legal training workshops for attorneys interested in handling pro bono cases through bar associations and law firms. Students-Internships & Post-Graduate Fellowships:

  • Law Students & Undergraduate Students: Students are invited to inquire about volunteer projects and internships with PIRC during the academic year or summer. Opportunities are available for students to work with PIRC's legal staff and administration.
  • Post-Graduate Fellowships:
    Law school graduates and LLM students interested in applying for a post-graduate fellowships hosted by PIRC should contact PIRC at least three months prior to the particular fellowship proposal deadline.

Community Volunteers-Current Opportunities:
PIRC invites community volunteers to assist us with language support, administrative assistance and other special projects.
