43% of Young Women Lawyers Experience Bias, Fla. Survey Finds (FL)

Those are just a few of the ways young female attorneys said they encountered gender bias in the workplace when queried by The Florida Bar. Among the more than 400 young attorneys who responded to a recent survey from the bar’s Young Lawyers Division, 43 percent said they have experienced gender bias. Forty percent said their employers or supervisors had been insensitive; 37 percent said their workplace didn’t recognize the need for work and life balance; and 32 percent said they lacked advancement opportunities. Among the survey respondents, 17 percent said they had been harassed on the job. Nearly all of the survey respondents had been in the legal profession for 10 years or less.
