Monday, February 29, 2016

"A federal lawsuit contends that female inmates in New York state prisons are subject to sexual abuse by male guards, who face little or no risk of meaningful punishment if caught.

The Southern District suit, Jones v. Annucci, 1:16-cv-01473, was filed Thursday on behalf of six female inmates by the Prisoners' Rights Project of the Legal Aid Society of New York City with pro bono assistance from attorneys at Debevoise & Plimpton.
It seeks class-action status on behalf of all current and former inmates of the state's three all-female prisons, Bedford Hills, Taconic and Albion. There are currently about 2,300 women in among 52,000-inmate prison population."
