Neighborhood Legal Services Association is seeking 12 to 24 volunteer attorneys familiar with family law who would be willing to provide pro bono "telephone advice" to callers seeking help with custody matters. The legal issues will relate to partial custody, modifications, or contempt issues.

Referrals will be made by e-mail to the volunteer attorney who will contact the client by telephone. The attorney volunteer will be given an electronic form to return to NLSA after providing the client with the necessary legal advice on their family law issue.

NLSA currently runs a custody clinic on-site twice a month but is looking to eliminate the clinic for several reasons: the demand for services exceeds NLSA's ability to provide prompt access to legal advice; economic conditions and the loss of bus service hinder the ability of clients to attend evening clinics; and NLSA can no longer afford to staff the evening clinics.

Attorneys would be asked to talk to no more than 6 callers per quarter and this number may be fewer if more than 12 attorneys volunteer. If you are available to help, please contact Barbara Kern at kernb@nlsa.us by December 10, 2011.
