Living Justice

As a Black woman in the United States, Antionette D. Carroll's lived experiences navigating and striving to survive the justice system qualify her [and many others] as a living expert of these issues of inequity and oppression, among others. Antionette shared her reflections on various meanings of the word "justice", challenged us all to examine who holds power at decision-making tables and identified what it may look like to amplify the power of living expertise, and outline her vision for redesigning and living in a world that has liberatory justice for communities of color.

Connecting Access to Advocacy: Technology Strategies to Build Community Power and Participation

This panel shared three examples of digital tools designed to help communities, organizers and advocates know and shape laws and policies that impact them. Panelists discussed how co-design technology and data can help connect individual casework and legal support with systemic advocacy, and what we are learning from these efforts to inform similar efforts in the field moving forward.

Interactive Workshop: Tools and Tactics for Participatory Design

Co-design (also called participatory design), is an inclusive design development process that explores solutions to a problem by proactively seeking members of the community most impacted by that problem. Co-design follows the principle of “building with, not for” communities by engaging community members in the ideation of a solution and design decision-making process. The goal of this workshop was to spark creativity and help participants re-imagine how to engage with their communities. This hands-on workshop explained why co-design is an effective strategy and walks participants through examples of co-design activities.
