On Wednesday, May 14, LSIC will hold its annual Celebration of Service Reception on the terrace of Miller and Chevalier. LSIC will present the 2014 Celebration of Service Award to Thomas S. Williamson, Jr., Senior Counsel, Covington & Burling, to honor his extraordinary contributions to public service throughout his career.

Mr. Williamson served the federal government as Solicitor of Labor and as Deputy Inspector General of the Department of Energy. He serves on the board of the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights & Urban Affairs and at the D.C. Access to Justice Commission. Over the years, he has undertaken countless pro bono activities, battling discriminatory practices throughout our community on behalf of the poor, people of color, women, the disabled, and our LGBT neighbors. Mr. Williamson is the Immediate Past President of the D.C. Bar. In 2007, he received the Wiley Branton Award for Lifetime Commitment to Equal Justice from the Washington Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights & Urban Affairs.

At the reception, LSIC will also present its inaugural Distinguished Alumnus Award to Heather Pinckney (LSIC Criminal Division '00). After law school, Ms. Pinckney served for eight years as a staff attorney at the D.C. Public Defender Service (PDS) and later as its deputy trial chief. In 2008, she founded the firm Harden & Pinckney, a boutique law firm located in downtown Washington, DC, which specializes in criminal defense litigation, contract, divorce, and family law. Ms. Pinckney has been a guest lecturer at Howard University School of Law, American University Washington College of Law, the David A. Clarke School of Law (UDC), and the Harvard Law School Trial Advocacy Workshop.

D.C. Law Students in Court's mission is to ensure justice for Washington's low-income community through free, high-quality legal assistance while instilling within its graduates a commitment to public service. In the past 46 years, LSIC has tried more than 10,000 cases, trained more than 2,500 lawyers, and assisted more than 250,000 low-income individuals.
