DCVLP's Domestic Violence Program
Our pro bono lawyers represent domestic violence survivors who are seeking civil protection orders (CPOs) in DC Superior Court.
CPO cases are a short-term pro bono commitment. They generally take 12-15 hours of attorney time within a two-week period. A DCVLP supervising attorney accompanies all pro bono attorneys to court, and also consults on each case.
This training program provides an overview of the process for obtaining a CPO. Topics include: dynamics of domestic violence, interviewing clients, obtaining evidence, and handling contested hearings, including introducing exhibits, openings, closings, direct and cross-examinations.
DC Bar membership is NOT required for attorneys volunteering with DCVLP.
*Training materials and light lunch provided*
To register, e-mail Ashley Badgley, abadgley@dcvlp.org by October 4, 3013.
There is no charge for this program.
