The Reducing Risk in the Floodplain (RRFP) Guide advises communities on a broader approach to managing the floodplain. Communities are facing increasing flood risk for many reasons at the same time local resources are being stretched thin. Your community already participates in the local Hazard Mitigation Plan; how do you ensure that it better identifies flood risk and solutions to reduce vulnerability? This Guide will help local planning teams better utilize the knowledge of their floodplain managers and give floodplain managers the tools to operationalize many elements of their floodplain management programs with community support through the planning process.

This webinar is a two-part series. Part 1 is an hour long “Overview” of the RRFP Guide highlighting challenges and best practices for reducing your community’s risk in the floodplain. Part 2 is a two-hour interactive training with breakout sessions that will dive deeper into strategies for comprehensive community floodplain management and flood risk reduction. This series is open to anyone with an interest or role in floodplain management or hazard mitigation planning.

These events are free, but you must register for each Part that you'd like to attend. You can register for each part by clicking on "Register" above. Participants who are Certified Floodplain Managers (CFM) or APA Certified (AICP) are eligible to receive Continuing Education Credit(s).

Please note: Webinar log in/call in information will be emailed to you before the event.

RRFP: Part 2 -Training

April 6, 2021 10AM - 12PM ET

This two-hour long training webinar will dive deeper into ways you can take immediate action to reduce risk in the floodplain. The RRFP guide helps to further identify best practices in floodplain management such as collecting and analyzing data, building partnerships, and linking existing planning initiatives. During this training there will be plenty of opportunity to participate and ask questions. We'll use commonly identified scenarios to address some of the most common questions Region 3 sees regarding floodplain management and hazard mitigation planning. You should be able to take what you learn here and apply it to your own floodplain management and hazard mitigation planning practices. Resources and contact information if you need more assistance will be provided at the end.
