In the February 2005 ABA Journal, ABA President Robert Grey praises the work of legal aid programs that receive LSC funds, and insists that it is "incumbent" on the U.S. legal profession to join the ABA in ensuring Congress' continued support for LSC. Grey notes that the work engaged in by LSC grantees "resides at the heart of what it means to be a lawyer." He also writes that U.S. Supreme Court Justice Lewis Powell was one of the many who helped to bring LSC to fruition so that litigants would have access to justice regardless of economic status. Grey concludes, "We can all honor [Justice Powell's] memory and the ideals he set forth by taking a stand for the organization he helped create. I urge every one of you . . . to contact your legislators and voice your support for the Legal Services Corporation."
