YouTube Transcription: Civil Rights 2.0 Video Contest

We know what civil rights looked like in the sixties.  We know the history.  What we want to know is, what do civil rights look like today?  The National Campaign to Restore Civil Rights has joined with YouTube to find out what the next generation of civil rights looks like.  If you are between the ages of 16 and 25, we want you to tell us, what are you and your generation doing for civil rights today?

Speaker 1: Civil rights covers such a broad spectrum today, there’s gay/ lesbian rights, there’s women’s rights…

Speaker 2: People out there should be able to exercise their right to choose…

Speaker 3: I tend to focus more in my life on women’s rights issues, especially reproductive rights and the wage gap…

Speaker 4: I believe, you know, that with civil rights you have basic human rights…

Speaker 5: I think racial profiling is very much of an issue…

Speaker 6: Civil rights issues for immigrants…

Speaker 7: Children’s rights, I think, are often ignored…

Speaker 8: I think if you want people to be aware of something it doesn’t happen until it really affects them personally…

Speaker 9: Civil rights includes environmental justice…

Speaker 10: There’s some serious environmental degradation that’s been going on, that continues to go on…

Speaker 11: It’s a country in crisis…

Speaker 12: Lack of health care, affordable health care…

Speaker 13: My main concern is socioeconomic differences…

Speaker 14: The elite in this country monetarily get the best education on all levels because they are able to afford it…

Speaker 15: If you don’t know what’s going on in the world today how are you supposed to fix things, change things…

Speaker 16: Well I definitely think the internet is capable of bringing awareness to civil rights, around America, around the world…

Speaker 17: Viral videos, YouTube, man, you guys could spread it…

Speaker 18: We could always do more…
