Join the National Crime Victim Law Institute and the Empire Justice Center on March 21, 2018, for the New York Legal Assistance Network CLE Training: Effective Legal Advocacy for Crime Victims.

Victims of crime come to us with myriad legal needs and face personal challenges and system barriers meeting those needs.  This training will provide an overview of the neurobiology of trauma so that practitioners can better understand their clients. With this foundation in place, the training will turn to the practical steps necessary to assisting clients as they navigate multiple complex justice systems and best practices in serving victims with mental health impairments or substance abuse issues.

Program Agenda Topics:

  • Understanding the Neurobiology of Trauma to Inform Effective Legal Services
  • Inclusive Legal Services for Victims with Substance Abuse Issues and/or mental Health Impairments
  • Representing Crime Victims - The Role of a Civil Victim Lawyer in Intersecting Systems

* This event is free; however space is limited to attend in person and lunch will not be provided. Attendees may register to attend remotely.

MCLE Accreditation: Empire Justice Center has been certified by the New York State Continuing Legal Education Board as an Accredited Provider of continuing legal education in the State of New York.

This training can be attended remotely or in-person at the United Way of Buffalo located at 742 Delaware Ave, in Buffalo, NY.

This training is open to all members of the New York Victim Legal Assistance Network, as well as the broader legal and advocacy community serving victims. Registration priority will be given to people actively working with Network.
