A conversation with James C. Goodale, then chief counsel for The New York Times, who led the legal team advising reporters and editors who published the Pentagon Papers. Mr. Goodale then led the legal fight resisting the government's judicial prior restraint which halted publication, winning one of the most important First Amendment rulings in modern times (403 U.S. 713).

Jeremy Scahill, co-founder of The Intercept and author of "Blackwater: The Rise of the World's Most Powerful Mercenary Army" will offer observations and reflections.
