  • Eastern Time (US & Canada)
  • By: New York State Courts Access to Justice Program
  • New York County Civil Court
Topics:
  • Pro Bono
  • Housing

This training is offered to all attorneys interested in participating in the NYS Courts Access to Justice Program's Housing Court Volunteer Lawyers Program.  You can learn more about this program here.   Interested volunteers do not have to have prior training in housing law.

8.5 hours of CLE credit is provided in exchange  for 12 hours of volunteer service (ADVICE ONLY) within 3 months of training in the Housing Court’s Help Centers.  Volunteers provide legal information and advice, but do not represent or file court papers for the litigants with whom they consult. Volunteer lawyers select the dates, times, and court locations in which they wish to volunteer. Every effort is made to accommodate volunteers’ requests. Volunteers serve in the Housing Court’s Help Centers in New York, Kings, Queens, Bronx and Richmond Counties.

Training topics in previous seminars covered the following areas:

  • • Nonpayment Proceedings
  • • Holdover Proceedings
  • • Rent-Regulation
  • • HP Proceedings
  • • Ethical Issues in Providing “Unbundled” Legal Services
  • • Introduction to the Help Center

See attached flyer for further details.

Registration:  Please email RSVP to VLPHousing@nycourts.gov

Part II will be held on July 14.
