Special Education Needs and Proof of SSI/SSDI

Topics:
  • Special Education

If you file for SSI/SSDI on behalf of an individual who has received special education services, you will want to document special education needs when you submit the disability report with a claim. School records/evaluations/assessments can assist in a favorable determination for benefits. Records indicating difficulty in certain subjects/failed grades/special classes/remedial instruction or special education instruction can be used to establish an impairment based on a learning problem, attention deficit disorder and/or attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, borderline intellectual functioning and mental health problems such as depression, bipolar disorder and/or anxiety. Records reflecting that a person's cognitive or psychological problems existed early on in life (prior to age 22) can be very useful in establishing a disability. This workshop will discuss how to identify the documents/assessments/reports and evaluations and use the information to establish eligibility for SSI and/or SSDI.
