NYLAG’s Special Education Unit helps disabled children obtain the best possible opportunities to learn and grow by representing them through all stages of the special education process – from the initial meeting with the Committee on Special Education, to Impartial Hearings, all the way to appeals to the State Review Office or Federal Court.  NYLAG is seeking pro bono attorneys to join us in our special education work and is offering an introductory training on June 17th for interested attorneys to learn about special education law and NYLAG’s practice in this area.  The training will address the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), which covers all disabled children between the ages of 3 and 21, each of whom is  guaranteed a free appropriate public education (FAPE) in the least restrictive environment (LRE).  The legal remedies available when the Department of Education (DOE) fails to provide a FAPE will be covered in-depth.  Seminal IDEA cases, as well as examples from NYLAG’s own special education practice, will also be discussed.

Space is limited.  To register for the training, please email CLE@nylag.org.
