Pro Bono Net Celebrates National "Celebrate Pro Bono" Week

New York, New York (October 22, 2018) - Pro Bono Net is pleased to announce our partnerships and celebrations surrounding the 10th Annual National Celebration of Pro Bono (October 21-27). The National Celebration of Pro Bono focuses the nation's attention on the increasing need for pro bono and acknowledges the dedication and unprecedented response of attorneys who volunteer their services throughout the year. This year the ABA Standing Committee on Pro Bono and Public Service joined with ABA President Bob Carlson to encourage participants to plan or participate in events focused on disaster resiliency.

Pro Bono Net, a national non-profit organization dedicated to increasing access to justice for the disadvantaged through innovative uses of technology, collaboration, and volunteer mobilization, joins this week long celebration to salute the work of volunteer lawyers across the country who help low-income people achieve access to justice.

We wish to recognize and express our gratitude for the thousands of volunteer lawyers who make a huge difference for those in need and the incredibly important work of pro bono volunteers in building our capacity to meet the vast unmet need for civil legal services.

In light of recent disasters, this year we are joining the ABA in their focus on disaster resiliency in addition to highlighting and supporting pro bono work across the country.  Legal aid programs help survivors rebuild their lives and navigate the road to recovery, including obtaining disaster benefits, overcoming displacement, making insurance claims, and much more.  Pro Bono Net continues to work closely with field partners in affected regions to support local response efforts and to coordinate national networking and resource development through the National Disaster Legal Aid Resource Center. Our recently launched Advocacy Center provides pro bono attorneys the networking tools to get involved in disaster-related pro bono work.

As part of our celebration, we will showcase disaster legal aid resources for volunteer lawyers in the field and across regions, along with other volunteering resources and opportunities. Throughout the week we will be sharing events, resources and highlights of the work being done to help people facing legal challenges post disaster. We are very proud to showcase this work and hope that it will inspire more people to get involved.

Visit our Celebrate Pro Bono page starting Tuesday, 10/23, to view the first of our highlights set to be released throughout the week.
