Haitian Immigration Pro Bono Project

Join this site if you are a volunteer attorney, legal services advocate, law student or faculty interested in supporting pro bono immigration efforts for Haitians.

The Haitian Immigration Pro Bono Project is a project of the Lawyers Earthquake Response Network (LERN), hosted by The Institute for Justice & Democracy in Haiti (IJDH). Its purposes are to:

  • Connect volunteer attorneys, law students, paralegals and others with free or low-cost legal service providers who need help in their Haiti TPS efforts, including on-site assistance and legal research etc;

  • Facilitate service provider collaboration, including the sharing of legal research, training materials, and the lessons of experience; and

  • Encourage volunteers to assist with related policy advocacy.

Service providers are encouraged to join the Haitian TPS Pro Bono Directory to inform legal professionals of opportunities to serve TPS applicants in their communities and to share any related needs. Attorneys, law students, and paralegals are encouraged to use the Directory to find out about such opportunities. We hope in this way to further communication and collaboration among and between service providers and legal professionals seeking to serve Haitian TPS applicants.

What's New

The filing deadline for Haitians to apply for Temporary Protected Status has been extended by 6 months. The much needed extension will enable many TPS-eligible Haitians to apply who have not yet been able to do so for lack of information, knowledge, or resources.
