Curious about family law pro bono opportunities? Looking for a chance to make a meaningful difference and help a family secure stability and security?

Join us for a site visit to the Domestic Relations Branch of D.C. Superior Court (also known as Family Court), where you will learn more about child custody, child support, paternity, and divorce litigation from the perspective of the bench, practitioners, and litigants.

This site visit will include an observation of court proceedings, a tour of court operations, and an opportunity to engage in discussion with an experienced family law attorney and sitting judge.

Your guide, Stephanie Troyer, is a Supervising Attorney in Legal Aids Domestic Violence/Family Law Unit and has been practicing family law in the District for nearly a decade. She will show you the unique features of the Domestic Relations Branch, share inside practice tips, and answer your questions about this specialized court.

You will also have the rare opportunity to have an informal conversation with a sitting judge in the Domestic Relations Branch. The judge will share her perspective from the bench on various Family Court issues, including how unrepresented litigants experience this court system compared to represented litigants.

Finally, you will learn how pro bono representation in child custody and support matters can help vulnerable individuals secure safety and stability for their families.

Space is limited, so please register as soon as possible. Preference will be given to D.C.-licensed attorneys.
