Topics:
  • Other Events

Join advocates and lawyers to learn about two significant benefits available to some District residents: Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP, also known as Food Stamps). Currently, the city council is discussing possible changes to the program. It will be very important for advocates to learn about expected changes so that they can counsel TANF families. Come hear Kate Coventry (D.C. Fiscal Policy Institute) and Jennifer Mezey (Legal Aid Society of the District of Columbia) discuss TANF eligibility, exemptions to the TANF time limit, and sanctions for this critical safety net program. Although the program will focus on TANF, SNAP program rules will also be briefly discussed.
