• 12:10 p.m. "The Importance of Pro Bono Representation for
survivors of IPV in Indian Country:" presented by Ellie
Webster, MLSA Pro Bono Coordinator

A brief summary of state wide pro bono representation in Montana. The Montana Legal Services Association helps low-income Montanans with civil legal aid. This presentation will cover the phone advice project, full representation, and clinic work. Another focus will be access to justice for survivors of IPV in Montana tribal nations. It will cover what is required to practice pro bono in tribal areas along with successes and barriers to delivering legal aid to tribal communities.

• 12:25 p.m. "Developments in Family Law and Indian Country" presented by Kekek Stark, Assistant Professor and Director, Margery Hunter Brown Indian Law Clinic, & Maranda Compton, President, Lepwe Inc., and Adjunct Professor

This presentation will discuss various topics associated with recent developments of family law in Indian Country including an update on the Brackeen v. Haaland case before the U.S. Supreme Court involving the Indian Child Welfare Act, the Violence Against Women Act reauthorization and how the implementation of the Act has affected Indian Country, as well as recent events and cases involving protection orders in Indian Country.
