This is a workshop session at the NLADA's (National Legal Aid and Defender Association) 2018 Conference in Texas.

2017 was an unprecedented year in disaster response. Nearly across the board, these events have had a disproportionate impact on low-income communities, immigrant communities, the elderly, or otherwise vulnerable individuals. This session will spotlight disaster response strategies deployed in 2017 in Texas and Northern California to quickly mobilize legal response efforts, support collaboration among programs working in affected areas, and reach affected communities. We will also discuss new online resources and networking tools available through DisasterLegalAid.org to assist field response efforts nationally in future rapid response scenarios.

Speakers:

  • Clarissa Ayala,  Communications Director, Lone Star Legal Aid
  • Saundra Brown, Directing Attorney Disaster Legal Services, Lone Star Legal Aid
