Greene County recently became the 28th North Carolina county approved for FEMA disaster assistance in the wake of Hurricane Florence, underscoring the need for North Carolina lawyers to volunteer with the Disaster Legal Services (DLS) project. DLS is a collaboration among the NCBA Young Lawyers Division, FEMA, the ABA YLD, with support from the NC Bar Foundation. Storm-affected North Carolina residents can access pro bono legal services through the DLS Hotline: 1-833-242-3549. There are 3 ways to volunteer with the DLS pro bono project:
• Volunteer to provide pro bono legal assistance to those calling in to the DLS hotline.
• Volunteer to answer DLS hotline & conduct intake (not giving legal advice/counsel).
• Volunteer to staff a legal resource and information table at a FEMA Disaster Recovery Center.
