Join us for a conversation with John Montgomery, former Managing Partner of Ropes & Gray, about his pro bono work on litigation against Backpage.com involving online sex trafficking of children. Ropes & Gray filed a federal lawsuit against Backpage.com LLC on behalf of three young women who had been trafficked as teenagers in Massachusetts. The lawsuit argues that Backpage created a business model which promotes and benefits from child sex trafficking. After fighting through losses at the district and appellate level, the firm has recently filed a Petition for Certiorari with the U.S. Supreme Court. Mr. Montgomery will share more information about this case and share his reflections on law firm pro bono from the perspective of a managing partner including how and why the firm chooses to take on pro bono matters.
Speaker: John Montgomery, Ret. Managing Partner, Ropes & Gray
