HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 65


PROCLAIMING THE WEEK OF OCTOBER 19-25, 2014, AS "DELAWARE PRO BONO CELEBRATION WEEK."

WHEREAS, the American Bar Association (ABA) is celebrating “National Pro Bono Celebration Week” during the month of October 2014 to celebrate the pro bono services of attorneys and organizations nationwide who provide legal services to needy individuals who would otherwise go without legal representation; and
WHEREAS, Delaware Volunteer Legal Services (DVLS) is one of the organizations in Delaware that, along with many individual attorneys and law firms, provides much-needed pro bono legal services to individuals in Delaware who would otherwise go without legal counsel and representation; and
WHEREAS, more particularly, DVLS and many individual attorneys and law firms in Delaware assist, on a pro bono basis, fellow Delawareans with legal problems and disputes ranging from foreclosure to bankruptcy, protection from abuse petitions, divorce and custody cases involving domestic violence, guardianships, housing, landlord/tenant disputes, wills, government benefits, home ownership, consumer issues, and many others; and
WHEREAS, without DVLS and the many attorneys and law firms in this great State who provide such necessary legal services on a pro bono basis, many of our citizens would be forced to go without legal representation, thus placing these individuals at a dangerous disadvantage; and
WHEREAS, DVLS, in conjunction with the ABA’s National Pro Bono Celebration Week, will celebrate pro bono service in our State of Delaware by scheduling events in Delaware to recognize such pro bono services;
NOW, THEREFORE:
BE IT RESOLVED by the House of Representatives of the 147th General Assembly of the State of Delaware, the Senate concurring therein, that in celebration of and in gratitude to DVLS and the many attorneys and law firms state-wide that provide pro bono services, the General Assembly proclaims that the week of October 19-25, 2014, shall hereby be recognized as “Delaware’s Pro Bono Celebration Week.” 

SYNOPSIS
By way of this Resolution the General Assembly hereby recognizes the importance of pro bono legal services to the many citizens of Delaware and does hereby recognize the week of October 19-25, 2014, as “Delaware’s Pro Bono Celebration Week.”
