Given the increasing number of pro se litigants who have pressing need for legal assistance on a host of consumer law issues, particularly consumer debt,
Manhattan CLARO (Civil Legal Advice and Resource Office) Project launched in 2008. These consumer debt cases can be overwhelming for pro se litigants; for example, many learn of a lawsuit only after their wages have been garnished or their bank accounts frozen. CLARO provides advice-only, pro bono assistance to pro se litigants on Thursday evenings from 6:00-8:00 PM in the New York County Civil Court at 111 Centre Street.

  • CLE Credit Comments: Three CLE credits (1.5 Professional Practice and 1.5 Skills) will be awarded to those attending the training session contingent on volunteers completing six hours of service (i.e., three, two-hour CLARO sessions).
