Home Page and Side Bar Widgets

What are these widgets?

As discussed in the main article, the home page a side bars both allow for a variety of content to be displayed within them. Many people call this a "widget" although it is not necessarily a widget in the strictest sense of the word. However, it made sense to address both these here.

It may make more sense to think of these as containers- places where you can provide small amounts of information to your users. It is really a space where you can place a content page widget, a CK Editor (which will allow you to display text, an image, embed a video), display a blog feed etc.

The Side Bar

The sidebar can provide unlimited numbers of spaces to provide small amounts of information. If you have content in a language other than English, you will automatically have a "More Languages" box at the top of the sidebar. If you have decided to use the "Set Your Location" feature, this will also appear on your side bar. A content page widget will also appear if you have configured the content page to display a widget on the side bar.

The Home Page Body

Below the topics table on your homepage, you can request a set of widgets. Typically, sites request two, which appear side by side, or four, which appear in two columns and two rows. If you would like one to streatch across the width of the homepage, you can ask for just one. This will only appear on your homepage, and will not appear on any other page of your site. Although there are no widgets that appear by default on your site, a content page widget will appear if you have configured the content page to display a widget on the homepage.
