The end of 2011 wrapped up a great year for Pro Bono Net and the SWEB commSnowflakeunity, as we worked together on many great projects and events and look forward to our ongoing work together in 2012. With the 2012 New Year upon us, the new LawHelp rollout continues to progress, with several  more states launching shortly. LawHelp Rebuild News

We’ve added some helpful resources to the 2011 LawHelp Rebuild folder. Be sure to check out the resources below and more LH3 Rebuild documents on SWEB.

LH3 Marketing Resource Folder
As states are approaching launch of their LH3 sites, we want to highlight this
folder which contains sample emails for spreading news about your site’s launch to stakeholders and the press. Also check out the LawHelp Marketing Checklist for ideas on marketing strategy.

LawHelp v3.0 Photo sources for site pages
Looking for photos for your new LH3 site, and don’t know where to start? Check out this
resource to find links to various free and low cost photos.

Multilingual and Translation Resource Folder
Be sure to check out the
Multilingual and Translation Resource folder in SWEB. This contains a resource on sample LH3 multilingual portal page translations and LH3 multilingual topic page translations, as well as proposed LH3 Spanish mirror site translations. These translations are being provided to Pro Bono Net and the LawHelp network in-kind by the LSI Foundation, a leading provider of language translation services.


Recent LSNTAP/PBN Trainings

At the close of 2011, there were a total of 11 LSNTAP/PBN trainings produced during the year on topics ranging from search engine optimization to best practices for online intake. Below is a selection of these most recent LSNTAP/PBN Community Training Series webinars. New SWEB Library and News Items

10-Minute Probono.net Admin Workshop: Calendar Event Formatting
During the December 2011 LawHelp Program Associate, Jillian Theil of Pro Bono Net discussed guidelines and tips for formatting advocate site calendar events.

How to Record in GoToMeeting and Edit in Movica
Lisa Stansky from Southeast Louisiana Legal Services created a
video tutorial which demonstrates how to record in GoToMeeting and Edit in Movica. It’s a new addition to other How-To Presentations on multimedia content development in this folder in SWEB. Also, be sure to take a look at the feedback survey for these video resources.

Citizenshipworks.org and Immigration LawHelp Project Overviews
Matthew Burnett from Pro Bono Net shared information about
Citizenshipworks.org and Immigration LawHelp projects with the LawHelp community during the November 2011 Coordinator Call. Be sure to visit both sites and read about the launch of Immigration LawHelp.

ShareLawVideo.org Launches
At the 2012 TIG Conference and on the January 2012 Monthly LawHelp Coordinator call, Kristin Verrill of Atlanta Legal Aid Society presented on ShareLawVideo.org, a new site that allows that allows legal aid programs to find and use video clips contributed by other programs, and share video content of their own with the community. Be sure to check out this great resource.

LTN Award for best pro bono use of technology
Congratulations to the
Minnesota Legal Services Coalition for winning the Legal Technology News Award for best pro bono use of technology for their LHI-powered Pro Bono Expungement tool kit. Additional information will be made available in the February 2012 issue of Law Technology News and on the magazine’s website.


Other PBN Resources of Interest

During the January 2012 Monthly LHI call, Sam Alpert of Pro Bono Net discussed best practices for creating LawHelp Interactive staging pages on statewide websites. You can view a recording of his presentation here. In addition, to increase the support available to new and returning LawHelp Interactive developers, Pro Bono Net created two step-by-step instructional webinars on how to upload and update existing template in LHI. These useful resources in the LawHelp Interactive Resource Center were developed by Rachel Aubin, affiliate of Capstone Practice, with LSC funding.

2012 Nonprofit Technology Conference
Save the date! The 2012 NTC Conference will be held in San Francisco, California on April 3-5. Regular registrations ends February 17th. Visit the

NTAP Roundtables
Visit the NTAP training calendar to register and get details on upcoming technology roundtables where various legal tech topics are discussed and explored.

2012 TIG conference
On January 11-13, 2012 TIG grantees and others from the legal services technology community gathered in Albuquerque, New Mexico to learn more about and network around technology use in the delivery of legal services. Some of the key topics covered included triage, e-lawyering, and mobile sites. Check out the 2012

2011 NLADA Centennial Conference
The 2011 NLADA Annual Conference took place December 7-10 in Washington D.C. To find out more information, visit the 2011 NLADA Conference website and SWEB.


 Pro Bono Net Transitions

On January 31st, 2012 Travis August will be leaving his position as National Support Coordinator to relocate from San Francisco to Philadelphia. He will continue to work in a consulting capacity for Pro Bono Net, while pursuing other interests in nonprofit technology. Travis has been an integral part of the growth of LawHelp.org and probono.net statewide website projects and building the capacity of the network. We thank him for his hard work and wish him well on his new horizons!
