This autumn, there are many exciting events to look forward to for Pro Bono Net and the SWEB community. One of the biggest events this fall is the National Pro Bono Celebration 2011, which honors the hard work and commitment of the pro bono community. Additionally, we are making great progress at Pro Bono Net with our partners on the LawHelp Rebuild. LawHelp Rebuild News
The 2011 LawHelp Rebuild folder features resources on topics ranging from a demo on how to prune your LawHelp topics to a subfolder dedicated to graphic designs and wireframes for the new site. If you haven’t already, make sure to check out these resources to help prepare your LawHelp site for the upcoming relaunch.
Updated Trainings Page
The Pro Bono Net Community Trainings Portal has been updated and expanded to include all statewide website trainings from Pro Bono Net since 2009, as well as trainings in collaboration with LSNTAP. The portal features trainings and tips on various topics relating to the upkeep and expansion of probono.net and LawHelp sites. Below is a selection of recent LSNTAP/PBN Community Training Series webinars. We encourage you to browse through the other materials in our collection!
New SWEB Library Items
Creating Email Alerts for Your Advocate Site Admin Inbox Workshop
During the April 2011 LawHelp Coordinator Call, Travis August of Pro Bono Net discussed ways to create email alerts for the RSS feed of Advocate Site admin inboxes.
Client Site e-Newsletters Presentation
Wilneida Negron from LawHelp/NY and Danielle Rebar from WashingtonLawHelp.org explored their experiences creating and sending out e-Newsletters during the June 2011 LawHelp Coordinator Call.
Southeast Louisiana Legal Services How-To Presentations Folder
Lisa Stansky from Southeast Louisiana Legal Services created a series of video tutorials which demonstrate how to create multimedia content using free and low cost tools. Learn how to add sound to a PowerPoint, use Authorstream to share PowerPoints and more in this folder in SWEB.
LiveHelp Volunteer Recruitment and Supervision Tips
Former New York LiveHelp Coordinator Abby Biberman compiled useful LiveHelp volunteer recruitment and supervision tips for working with law student and other volunteers.
LiveHelp Administrator’s Guide
Sam Alpert created a new LiveHelp admininstrator’s guide to give LiveHelp managers a working knowledge of the LivePerson Administrator’s Console. New LiveHelp staff should read this guide before their training with Pro Bono Net to better understand this important component of LiveHelp.
Presentation by Adam Stofsky of the New Media Advocacy Project
Adam Stofsky of the New Media Advocacy Project joined the May 2011 LawHelp Coordinator Call to discuss his organization, an advocacy group and new-media laboratory that helps human rights and social justice defenders overcome structural obstacles through the use of new communications technology.
Upcoming Events and Trainings
National Pro Bono Celebration 2011
This year, the National Pro Bono Celebration will take place during the week of October 23 – 29th. This nationally coordinated event showcases pro bono efforts by encouraging and supporting local efforts to expand the delivery of pro bono legal services. NLADA Centennial Conference
The NLADA Centennial Conference will be held in Washington, DC on December 7-10, 2011. Regular registration ends October 29th.
2012 TIG conference
Save the date! The 2012 TIG Conference will be held in Albuquerque, New Mexico on January 11-13. Visit the 2012 TIG Conference page for more information.
