EDINBURG, TX – Hidalgo County residents with limited financial means and a need for civil legal information have access to a new Self-Help Legal Workstation beginning Nov. 10 at the Hidalgo County Law Library. The Self-Help Legal Workstations is located on the first floor of the Hidalgo County Courthouse and features a computer, printer, and an online connection that directs users to the website, TexasLawHelp.org.

“The Hidalgo County Law Library is proud to offer this important program,” said Judge Fidencio M. Guerra, Jr., Hidalgo County Law Library Chairman. “The Self-Help Legal Workstation offers invaluable free legal information and resources that will benefit Hidalgo County citizens.”

The Self-Help Legal Workstation is the first of its kind in Hidalgo County.

The workstation is made possible through the Legal Services Corporation’s Technology Initiative Grant to ensure individuals without Internet connection, particularly in rural areas, have access to online civil legal information. The program is a collaboration between the Hidalgo County Law Library and Texas Legal Services Center, a non-profit legal aid program based in Austin that administers TexasLawHelp.org.

The Hidalgo County Law Library’s mission is to provide access to information on legal research for the Judiciary, State, and County Officials, Members of the State and Local Bar Associations, and all citizens of Hidalgo County with the best collection of law books and services available.

Texas Legal Services Center (TLSC) is a legal aid program that provides assistance and training to poverty law advocates and their clients in the areas of litigation support, education and communication. TLSC sponsors projects that assist individuals in Texas and, in some cases, nationwide.
