Michael L. Monahan, director of the Pro Bono Project of the State Bar of Georgia and the Georgia Legal Services Program, has received the 2010 Tanya Neiman Pro Bono Professional of the Year Award from the National Association of Pro Bono Professionals (NAPBPro).

The award is named after Tanya Neiman, the former Director of the Volunteer Legal Services Program at the Bar Association of San Francisco for nearly twenty-five years. It’s given to pro bono professionals who demonstrate a steadfast commitment to pro bono and have achieved outstanding results. Tanya Neiman was a founding board member of Pro Bono Net.

The Georgia Legal Services Program is one of hundreds of organizations around the country using Pro Bono Net’s technology platform to offer powerful and sophisticated online tools to pro bono and legal aid advocates, and to provide critical legal information and assistance directly to the public.

Monahan was a significant force in establishing GeorgiaAdvocates.org, Georgia's online poverty law resource for pro bono and legal services attorneys, which uses Pro Bono Net’s Probono.net platform, and LegalAid-GA.org, which uses the LawHelp.org platform.

Monahan discusses Georgia’s legal landscape on his blog, Lawscape. He recently contributed a guest blog post to Pro Bono Net about his work, and the importance of pro bono. You can also follow him on Twitter: @ProBono_GA.
