Tip of the Week: Helpful Hints for Spring Cleaning (advocate site)

Spring is in the air, and there is no time like the present to start thinking about spring cleaning your websites. To get things started, this Tip covers a few helpful hints on straightening up your advocate site library:

1. Take the time to write clear, descriptive titles and descriptions for your resources. Remember that if users find a document through the site search they won't always see the folder, so give your resources titles that are descriptive enough to stand alone. Also remember that the site search engine goes through resource titles and descriptions, so the more complete they are, the better the chances that users will be able to find what they are looking for.

2. When organizing your library, it may be helpful to create the same file structure on your hard drive so that you can easily find and store resources locally, particularly if you are just getting started or if you are using documents to create PDFs that cannot be updated.

3. Although you can upload many different file types in the library, remember that your users may not have the program they need to view the documents. Consider converting the documents to PDF, which has very high penetration, and can be done using a free conversion tool such as CutePDF.
