Tip of the Week: Use "Search" to Find What You're Looking For (advocate site)

  • Pro Bono Net

The Search tool is available at the top of all probono.net site pages. You can run a search using keywords to find news articles, calendar events, new cases, library resources, roster members, and listserv messages. Note: you must be logged in to search password-protected content on the site. Content is available through searches once it has been indexed (currently, the site indexes every hour).

Probono.net uses the Verity search engine, which supports both simple word searches and boolean queries - this allows you to refine your queries using logical operators such as "and," "or" and "not." A basic keyword search includes all of the major fields associated with each piece of content (title, organization, description, location, etc.), and, in the library, includes the body of file attachments in most common file formats such as Word, WordPerfect, Excel, HTML and many PDF files (if the document is a PDF, it must be OCR-formatted, which means the image has been converted to text).

To limit your results to content of a particular tool, topic, organization, or date range, click on the "Advanced Search" link under the search box and refine your search using additional pulldown menus and keyword search boxes.

To learn more about the search tool, visit "Tips on Searching" at http://www.probono.net/tipsonsearching931.cfm, or the Advocate Site Admin Manual, Appendix D: Searching. The manual is available in the admin toolbox on your site.
