Davis Polk Partner Joins Pro Bono Net Board

NEW YORK (October 4, 2010) Pro Bono Net, a leader in innovative programs that increase access to justice, is pleased to announce that Frank Azzopardi, a partner at Davis Polk, has joined its Board of Directors.

Pro Bono Net is a national nonprofit dedicated to increasing access to justice. Its comprehensive programs enable legal advocates to make a stronger impact, increase volunteer participation and provide assistance directly to the public.

Azzopardi is a member of Davis Polk’s Corporate Department and heads the firm’s Intellectual Property group. He has extensive transactional experience in intellectual property, technology and media-related issues with clients including Comcast, Bertelsmann, Tyco Electronics, Citigroup and Morgan Stanley. He’s been at Davis Polk since 2001, in the firm’s New York office, and was named a partner in 2008. He received his law degree from the University of Melbourne Law School in Australia.

He is a member of Davis Polk’s Pro Bono Committee, and often works with Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, which provides legal services to the arts community. In addition to advising Pro Bono Net on IP and online privacy issues, he has worked pro bono with organizations including iCivics, a web-based education project started by Sandra Day O’Connor to teach students civics and inspire them to be active participants in democracy; Peace Ventures, a new initiative dedicated to providing market access to businesses that help prevent conflict and promote peace; and the Groundswell Community Mural Project, a New York-based nonprofit that brings together youth, professional artists, and communities to create works of public art in under-represented neighborhoods.

“We’re delighted to welcome Frank to the Board,” said Bill Pollak, President and CEO of ALM and Chair of Pro Bono Net’s Board. “At a time when legal aid and pro bono organizations are struggling to meet the vast need for civil legal services among millions of Americans who can’t afford an attorney, his passion and commitment will be a tremendous asset.”

Azzopardi joins 16 other members of the Pro Bono Net board, including representatives of leading law firms, legal services organizations and companies including Microsoft, Bank of America, ALM and LexisNexis.
