JustCause [formerly Volunteer Legal Services Project] coordinates the delivery of free civil legal services by approximately 700 volunteer private lawyers to low-income residents of Monroe County. The types of cases in which volunteer attorneys provide pro bono services include domestic violence divorces and post-divorce proceedings, Family Court child support and custody cases (initial orders or modifications) involving domestic violence, name changes, landlord-tenant, unemployment insurance, bankruptcy, consumer, income tax, foreclosure, immigration and naturalization, nonprofit organizations, micro-entrepreneur, wills and additional estate planning, among others. Pro bono attorneys accept cases in which they provide full representation. Pro bono attorneys can also participate in the 7th Judicial District/JustCause Help Center, the Federal Pro Se Assistance Program or the JustCause clinics: family law custody, debt management advice, wills, or immigration. Law student volunteers can participate in a variety of ways.
