Allies for Health + Wellbeing (formerly Pittsburgh AIDS Task Force) is dedicated to saving, sustaining, and empowering people living with HIV/AIDS and preventing the spread of infections. The agency provides direct services, housing, referrals, advocacy, and outreach and education programs.
The organization's Pro Bono Legal Network advises, refers and/or represents people living with AIDS and HIV infection, their family and friends legal matters including: wills; living wills; powers of attorney; SSI/SSDI; guardianship; and issues involving civil rights, employment discrimination, medical treatment discrimination, confidentiality issues and medical insurance.
While cases vary, generally Legal Network members provide four hours of service a month. Act 33/34 (child abuse and criminal history) clearances required.
Malpractice Insurance for Volunteer Lawyers is available through Allegheny County Bar Association as a member of the the Center For Volunteer Legal Resources.
