The Mecklenburg County Bar recently launched a direct case placement pro bono program and volunteer attorneys are needed. THe program works in conjunction with Legal Aid of NC and Legal Services of Southern Piedmont to assist those clients they are unable to serve. Cases will be assigned on a rotation basis depending upon the area(s) of law for which you register. The time commitment could be as little as one to two cases a year.
Areas for which attorneys are needed immediately are family law, landlord/tenant, foreclosure and bankruptcy.
The MCB requires that the pro bono volunteer's liability insurance policy include coverage for pro bono cases.
