Rural Law Center of New York, Inc.

The Rural Center of New York, Inc. (RLC) is a not-for-profit legal assistance program committed to focusing attention through the legal system on the needs of low-income rural New Yorkers. The RLC's Judges' Best Practices CLE Pro Bono Program is a significant component of its entire mission. In order to expand pro bono resources for our rural clients, the RLC offers free, accredited CLE trainings for rural attorneys designed and taught by the local judiciary. Attorneys receive this valuable training with the understanding that they will, in return, provide pro bono services in their own communities. Unlike traditional referral panels, the RLC has created a model that utilizes the collaborative effort of the courts, private attorneys and legal services in order to have a community-wide impact. Beyond resulting in pro bono representation in individual cases, the RLC Attorney Pro Bono Program also includes pro se clinics, community legal education and support for rural not-for-profits.
