Reach Enumclaw Legal Clinic to connect Urban Lawyers to Rural Clients - work from your office or home

"Reach Enumclaw" it is supported by several other organizations including: Cardozo Society, Plateau Outreach Ministries, Seattle University Law School Access to Justice Institute, and the King County Library System.

Program Purpose: The project seeks to demonstrate the feasibility of using Computers and phones (Skype) to connect low income residents in rural King County with attorneys in more populated parts of the County. The goal of the project is to demonstrate that residents with little or no access to legal services (because of their lack of income and location in areas of the County with few, if any, legal service programs,) can be served by using technology to connect to the pool of lawyer volunteers in urban areas.

The project and its supporters will provide services in the form of outreach to and screening of clients, providing a location for clients at Enumclaw Library, lay volunteers and office equipment for a clinic one to two evenings a week. The attorney volunteers will be able to connect to clients from their office computers.

General Duties: In a 30 minute meeting, the legal clinic attorney will further distill the client's legal problem (refined from intake material provided to the attorney by SU law students at the time clients schedule the meeting ) The attorney will then advise and direct the client in a manner that will lead to a resolution of their problem.

Time commitment: Volunteers are asked to commit one clinic shift (two hours) every 4 to 6 weeks for at least one year. We have an immediate need for volunteers for June 2012.

Qualifications: Attorneys may come from diverse areas of practice and may have varying degrees of experience. Experienced attorneys in Family Law, Creditor-Debtor issues, Elder Law, Landlord-Tenant, and Immigration are in high need. You must be admitted to the Washington Bar and have professional liability insurance.

Training programs will be available online to assist the attorney to prepare for the clinic.
