Disability Rights California

Organization Description:

Disability Rights California has worked to advance the rights of Californians with disabilities for over thirty years, with offices in Sacramento, Bay Area, Fresno, Oakland, Los Angeles, and San Diego. We assist individuals with physical/orthopedic, sensory, cognitive, psychiatric and all other disabilities. Individual cases include disability issues: public benefits, community integration, housing, education, special education, mental health, health care, transportation, assistive technology, discrimination, ADA, and regional center rights. Our class action litigation includes community integration, protecting California's safety net, and ensuring that individuals with disabilities have the right and appropriate supports to remain in their own homes.

Pro Bono Project Description:

Systemic and class action litigation in federal and state court: Disability Rights California welcomes pro bono collaboration from major law firms, in house corporate counsel, and private practitioners on our major litigation in state and federal court, expanding the rights of individuals with disabilities. To see a sample of representative cases, go to http://www.disabilityrightsca.org/advocacy/cases.htm. We frequently have pro bono opportunities in each of our major topic areas, and in all of our 5 regional offices throughout the state. The majority of volunteer opportunities are for attorneys providing pro bono legal services, but we occasionally have opportunities for paralegals and non-lawyer volunteers. We also have opportunities for individual representation of children and adults with disabilities. We also welcome volunteers to act as guardians ad litem in court proceedings for certain individuals with disabilities who need assistance with the court process.
