Legal Aid Of North Carolina, Central Intake Unit/Helpline

Legal Aid of North Carolina, Central Intake Unit/Helpline, is a central office that screens and interviews persons who are calling LANC by telephone and seeking legal assistance.  The CIU provides advice and brief service to eligible clients and also refers clients to local office for additional legal services.

The Central Intake Unit also manages the Lawyer on the Line Project in partnership with the North Carolina Bar Association.  Lawyer on the Line provides a straightforward avenue for attorneys to provide basic legal advice and service to those in need.  Lawyer on the Line attorneys volunteer to commit from one to four hours each month to assist Legal Aid-eligible clients by providing brief advice by phone in one or more selected areas of practice.  To register for Lawyer on the Line, visit the NC Bar Association's website.
