Painter and mixed-media artist Janice Mathews-Gordon is hosting a special one-evening art sale to benefit Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma at In Your Eye Gallery in the historic Paseo arts district. Titled Season of Peace, the artist will feature her characteristic, abstract paintings of doves, as well as prints and cards of those paintings, at a reception from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, December 3.

Started on a small scale two years ago as a simple gift-giving project in memory of her father, Judge Eugene Mathews, the artist is now bringing her colorful and symbolic paintings to the larger community. Suggestions of doves, perched or in-flight, are sketched expressively with charcoal into textured fields of bright color on canvases of varied sizes.
 

Legal Aid Services of Oklahoma, Inc. is a non-profit law firm whose purpose is to provide critical legal services to Oklahomans in need. Legal Aid’s philosophy of “equal justice for all” was emphasized by Judge Mathews throughout his life, and Mathews-Gordon believes it is one that touches on the nature of the season itself: respectfully reaching out to others in need of support and help.

While this art sale is one night only, paintings and prints will continue to be available throughout December at In Your Eye Gallery, open noon to 5:00 pm Thursday, Friday and Saturday and during the Paseo First Friday Art Walk on December 6 from 6:00 to 10:00 pm.
