LASO Staff and Volunteers Give Back on OBA Day of Service

OBA President Jim Stuart announced that his theme for 2013 would be "Oklahoma lawyers giving back", and then soon after, September 20-21 was declared as the OBA Day of Service.  With the help of the OBA Young Lawyers Division; county bar leaders and legal organizations planned projects that gave back to local communities all over the state.

LASO staff and volunteers planned activities in honor of the OBA Day of Service.

Oklahoma County –Sept 21
The Oklahoma City Law Office partnered with the Oklahoma County Bar Association to offer a legal advice clinic at the Epworth United Methodist Church on Saturday, September 21st.  The clinic was a huge success! 

Many thanks to our volunteer attorneys John Williams, David Miley, John Miley, Bill Ford and Tai Du and our legal secretaries Susan Blethrow and Penny Denton! We appreciate these volunteers who generously donated their time to help so many people on a Saturday morning!!!

Tulsa –Sept 20
Tulsa Law Office attorneys partnered with the Tulsa County Bar Association and the University of Tulsa College of Law to hold a Wills clinic for parents of the children at Kendall Whittier Elementary School, a low-income area of Tulsa with a large percentage of Hispanic residents.  Attorneys drafted Wills and answered questions about end of life decisions.

Lawton - Sept 21
On Saturday, September 21st, the Lawton Law Office staff and OBA members met at the New Directions Woman's Shelter to make presentations, hold a question and answer session and pass out brochures.

LASO staff and the Bar Association members prepared a cookout for the residents following the morning presentation.  Friends of the Library donated two boxes of children's books and Sam's Club donated a $25.00 gift certificate for the Shelter.

Payne County – Sept 21
LASO ‘s Stillwater Law Office in conjunction with Payne County Bar members prepared wills for "first responders" at Hal Ellis's office.

Washington and Nowata Counties – Oct 4
The Bartlesville Law Office partnered with the Washington County Bar Association for the OBA Day of Service.  A program was presented on October 4th designed for senior citizens regarding Durable Powers of Attorney, Durable Powers of Health Care and Advanced Health Care Directives with a Question & Answer session to follow in which all attorneys who have volunteered answered questions.

The participants of this seminar received a coupon which entitles them to meet with an attorney who will draft any or all of the three documents.  The participants must redeem their coupon within 90 days of the seminar.
