TU Law School to host ABA Town Hall Meeting

The ABA Town Hall will be held here at TU on October 3, 2012, from 5-7 p.m. The ABA Section of Individual Rights and Responsibilities (IRR) will host the event on the subject of how young Native American lawyers and Native American law students experience discrimination in the profession, the courts and elsewhere. This session is one of seven that the ABA is holding around the country, each focusing on a different form of discrimination facing young lawyers and law students - on what their experiences are and on what solutions may be needed.

These sessions are all part of an ABA-IRR year-long project entitled "Advocating for Equality in the Next Generation."  Other town hall meetings, to be held from October through April at law schools around the country, will focus on issues of gender, race, disability, sexual orientation, immigration and national origin, and religion.

The format is to briefly welcome participants, to have opening remarks by Professor Bill Rice to set the tone, and then to break into small group discussions to get young lawyers and law students talking about their experiences, concerns, expectations and hopes.
