The new office, located at 14 E Street Southwest in Ardmore, opened on August 1st for moving day.

What a day!

The Ardmore office had been located downtown in the historic newspaper building since Legal Aid first opened  on November 13, 1979.  Paula Colbert, paralegal, who was there when the doors opened that very first day noted “there were plenty of wonderful memories serving clients in the previous office for almost thirty-two years but we are excited to be in this new location."  Managing Attorney, Kay Karen Kennedy has been with Legal Aid since August 1989 and has managed both the Ardmore and Ada offices these offices 1991.

Kennedy is pleased with the newer offices, additional parking for clients and more modern amenities.  She remarked that “though the staff in this office have served thousands of clients over the past 32 years, the volunteer lawyers who join us in this important work have greatly increased the work we are able to do for this part of south central Oklahoma.  We look forward to many more years in partnership with this community striving to end the effects of poverty on the lives of children and seniors.”

The Ardmore and Ada offices are staffed by 3 staff attorneys, 2 paralegals and 1 administrative assistant.  These two offices serve Garvin, Pontotoc, Murray, Jefferson, Carter, Johnston, Love and Marshall Counties.  In addition to these counties the lawyers also practice in Chickasaw District Court and administrative courts.

Paula Colbert, Paralegal, is a specialist in the area of elder law and provides community presentations on information that is of special importance to senior citizens.  She serves on the domestic violence panel, provides representation before administrative bodies on issues involving Medicare, Medicaid and unemployment.  With nearly 33 years of experience in senior issues, she is an experienced and valued member of ‘Team Legal Aid.’

Bobbie Nichols, Paralegal, brings invaluable expertise to the Legal Aid program representing clients in social security disability cases.  When Legal Aid experienced statewide shortages in staff with Social Security experience, Ms. Nichols, recognized statewide in the program for her social security expertise, was asked to provide representation to clients throughout the State which she did very successfully.  The Ardmore office is especially fortunate to have Ms. Nichols on staff.

Please join us for light refreshments.  We are pleased to show you our new offices!
