Attorney General reminds Oklahomans of application deadline for Mortgage Settlement Fund

On Feb. 9, Oklahoma announced an agreement with five of the nation’s largest mortgage service providers – Bank of America, JPMorgan Chase, Citigroup, Wells Fargo and GMAC.

The agreement provides Oklahoma $18.6 million in compensatory damages for unfair and deceptive practices by the banks during the mortgage and foreclosure crisis. Attorney General Scott Pruitt issued a reminder for Oklahoma residents who may qualify for compensation from a fund created by the settlement between Oklahoma and the five mortgage service providers.

Oklahoma homeowners who have been harmed by unfair and deceptive servicing practices such as robo-signing and dual-tracking are encouraged to submit an application and relevant documentation to the Attorney General’s Public Protection Unit. Applicants must be Oklahoma residents and complete their application by Sept. 13, 2012.

For a copy of the application go online to the Oklahoma Mortgage Settlement Information page at www.oag.ok.gov. Residents without access to the Internet can call (405) 521-2029 for an application to be mailed. “We want to hear from Oklahoma homeowners who were harmed financially or may have lost their homes,” Pruitt said. “We need to make sure they are compensated for the harm they suffered.”
